It's Finished!

It's been mostly finished since the weekend but we've been putting in final touches (still don't have little things done like the picture and clock hung). I've been very sick this week so it's been moving slower than it otherwise might. Here are the pictures that I took this morning. There are two from different angles. I also took a picture of the floor that Jason did such a great job on. And there's one of the ugly gray breaker box. The picture we found to go over it is leaning against the wall below. We're very pleased with how it turned out. You probably can't tell from the pictures, but the floor does a nice job of bringing out the wall color and the counter top contains some small flecks of the wall color too.

He Says Tomorrow

The painter has informed me that he'll be done with the kitchen tomorrow. As I was leaving for work, he was putting the doors back on the cabinets and clearly touching up some other things here and there. He told me he would be done today but he's only working part of the day today, so it will definitely be tomorrow. I figure we'll get the floor done over the weekend and then we'll be moving everything back in. Woo hoo!

The dining room and hallway will be painted when the painter gets back from vacation in two weeks. He was a little pessimistic that the outside would be done by August. Let's hope that he's wrong. He has a lot of jobs right now, so who knows.

I really need to be getting on some of my jobs too. I've primed the fence but have never painted it. And at some point I have to get that back porch cleaned out and start the painting process back there. Once it's painted, then I have to make window treatments and slipcovers. There's so much work to do out there before Aidan's birthday!

Each Day A Little More

Yesterday more painting was done. This guy is good. I think he may be done with the cabinets today and then move on to the walls tomorrow. As soon as he is done Jason and I can start on the floor and get the appliances back in, after which we can begin putting all of our stuff back in there.

This morning I was calculating the great deal we got on our dishwasher. I've been a little annoyed with Jason that we got all scratch and dent except for the dishwasher. He had to have the best dishwasher. But I realized this morning that we got free installation, free delivery, no sales tax, a $50 gift card, and then yesterday we got 170 electrosol tablets in the mail. That helps me to feel better about it.

Now if we can just get to the point of full kitchen operation!

All Primered Up

Well, everything in the kitchen has primer and will be painted this week. I'm so excited about getting all of our stuff back in the kitchen and cooking in there. I signed us up for CSA so that we'll be a 1/2 bushel a week of locally grown, organic veggies to cook up! With the new built in cutting board and garbage disposal, it'll be great! Jody and I went yesterday to choose paint colors for the dining room, hallway, and back porch area. I have some big plans for those rooms as well. I think I might take a few days off here and there to get that stuff done but my goal is to get it all done by Aidan's birthday, so I have some time. I finished priming the new picket fence but haven't painted. Jason is installing another section of picket over on the other side of the house, but we're not in a huge hurry to paint that one. You can't really see it from the front or the back because of all of the trees. I think we are both very excited about the changes on the house and to see the potential realized for the resale. I'm posting the latest pics of the kitchen taken on Friday.

He Who Paints

The painter came yesterday and did a lot of work. I was amazed at how much he got done in just a few hours. He will paint the kitchen, then dining room, then hallway. We've not discussed the back porch area yet. After the inside is done, he plans to do the outside. I'm getting excited about how it will all look. This morning Jason and I talked about the screened in room. I think I have him convinced that redoing that room will make the house far more valuable to potential buyers. He told me about a house down the street that's smaller with a smaller lot that's selling for $141K. We paid a little under $109K but plan to put $25K toward the fixup. Not a huge profit, but enough to pay off and then have $40K down payment on the next house. Plus we get to use the updates on this house until we sell. I'm excited!
